The former personal attorney for Donald Trump has stepped down as the US Attorney for New Jersey. This follows a legal ruling that challenged her legal standing to occupy the role.

Official Departure

The nation's top law enforcement official, Pam Bondi, announced her stepping down on the start of the week. In a statement that the judicial decision made it impossible for her to effectively run her office.

"Let no one confuse adherence to the ruling as defeat," she wrote. "The effort will now reach across America."

Court Ruling

Her resignation was triggered by a judicial panel ruled that she had been unlawfully serving as the federal prosecutor. This judgment is could influence numerous legal proceedings in the state.

The court said that a acting appointment that bypassed confirmation by the US Senate breached the federal law governing appointments.
