Fresh Particulars Come to Light About the Finding of the Reiner Couple's Remains

Fresh particulars have surfaced about the tragic demises of esteemed filmmaker Rob Reiner and visual artist Michele Singer Reiner, whose remains were discovered at their Los Angeles home home on Sunday.

The Discovery

A source indicates referencing a person close to the family, a practitioner scheduled for an appointment was the first to notice something was wrong after failing to get inside the house. The therapist then got in touch with the couple's daughter, Romy Reiner, who lives nearby.

Upon entering the residence, Romy came upon her father's body. Accounts indicate she then exited the property overwhelmed with grief, not realizing at that moment that her mother's body was also present. A companion who had accompanied her contacted 911. Afterward, emergency responders discovered Michele Singer Reiner's body.

Criminal Charges

The police have formally accused the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, with the charges of premeditated murder, along with the charge related to a weapon, said to be a knife. He is currently being held without bail.

Correcting the Record

The anonymous source also disputed several earlier details. It was stated that while Romy Reiner told first responders that her brother Nick lived in a detached unit on the estate, she did not point to him as a person of interest at that juncture.

The source also pushed back against widely reported suggestions that Rob and Michele Singer Reiner had been especially "concerned" about Nick's behavior in the preceding period. Rather the family was "accustomed to working through [Nick's] problems together."

The statement includes accounts of reportedly "erratic" behavior by Nick at a gathering thrown by Conan O'Brien the evening prior to the bodies were found. While the source stated they were not in a position to confirm whether Rob had "rebuked" his son at the party, they said that claims of a "major confrontation" between the two were untrue.

Investigation Timeline

Per law enforcement sources, the medical examiner had not yet established as of Tuesday whether the Reiners died on Saturday evening or on Sunday. Preliminary accounts indicated the condition of their bodies implied they had been deceased for a number of hours.

Nick Reiner was apprehended at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Sunday in the Exposition Park, about 15 miles from the scene. He was set to appear in court on Tuesday, but his attorney, Alan Jackson, said his client had not received medical clearance and would not be present until no sooner than Wednesday.
