Manchester United Poised to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for United

The forward, with six months remaining on her contract, is known as a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing is viewed as a marquee signing for the WSL side.

Departure from Bayern has been anticipated after she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading forwards. According to reports, the formalities for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goalscoring to Boost the Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's forward line. She has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Carrington

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United appear to be gathering momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen further business:

  1. The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a club in the American league, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
